How long have you been in business?
ConFirm's roots lie with Cottrell Ltd., a leading infection control company founded in 1979. The ConFirm division of Cottrell Ltd. was founded in 1986 when the ConFirm Biological Monitoring Service was launched. ConFirm Monitoring Systems Inc. is independently owned and operated.

What is biological monitoring?
Biological Monitoring is a method of verifying sterilizer performance through the use of a calibrated population of bacterial spores (on a spore strip) that are highly resistant to the mode of sterilization being monitored. The spore strips are subjected to a sterilization cycle, transferred to a growth media, incubated, and reviewed for spore survival, which indicates sterilization failure. Failure of the bacterial spores to grow demonstrates that conditions were adequate to achieve sterilization.

Why should I use two test strips instead of one?
The use of at least two biological indicators to monitor a sterilization process greatly enhances failure detection. A study of a sterilization monitoring service's database revealed that in 48.7% of tests using two test strips, one strip tested positive. This indicates that there is a nonuniformity in the sterilization conditions within the sterilizer chamber and that there is a need for at least two test strips to detect the nonuniformity.
